FAQ’s

Is Custombuilt Homes owned by or affiliated with any other building company?

We are a small family owned company and happily independent.
We are also a member of the Wesbuilders Group,  a member-owned Cooperative consisting of smaller building companies banding together with other industry providers to enable access to lower pricing rates which are usually only enjoyed by project builders.  This allows us to stay small, which is the way we like it.

Do you have standard house design plans for us to choose from?

Not as such, as we custom design every home to maximise the potential of the block and meet your specific requirements.  We can however show you designs and photos of houses we’ve previously built if you need inspiration.

What types of houses do you build?

We can build anything, from timber frame homes on poles or concrete slab, to pole/stump homes, to brick homes – due to the vast difference in sites we build on (and the clients we design them for) there is a big difference in the types of homes we can create.

Will you visit our block to ensure it is suitable to build the home we want on it?

Yes – typically Gary will visit your site prior to meeting with you to ensure he can give you accurate and relevant advice right from the first conversation.

Can I use my own plan?

You are welcome to use your own plan if you have one.

How much will it cost to design and build our home?

This is not a simple question to answer, as every home is uniquely designed based on specification, design, and the intricacies of the site.  Considerable time and effort is always placed on preparing a design, so that we can assess if expectations and budget can be met before a quote is given.

As a ballpark for establishing a budget, most homes cost between $1200 – $2000 per square metre to build.  In the hills most people build around the middle of this bracket and only a few fall outside of it. Siteworks will vary on top of that but each site needs to be looked at to form a more accurate idea of costs.

How long will our home take to build?

This depends on the site, and the size and design of your home. On average it takes about 8 months. It takes longer to build an individually designed home than a standard project home due to quality tradespeople required and the high level of finishing.

Do you only build new homes or do you do additions/extensions?

As well as new houses we do additions, extensions and major renovations, as well as housing units and even commercial structures.

Does Custombuilt Homes use subcontractors?

Yes we do – most of our subcontracted tradespeople have been with us for many years.  We often build homes for returning clients and they love the fact that they see the same Supervisor and tradespeople who built their previous home now working on their new one.

Will we have access to the site during construction?

Absolutely – simply contact the Building Supervisor and he will organise a time to take you through the site.

Can I make changes after signing the contract?

The short answer is yes – if you wish to make changes following the signing of your contract a variation will be raised.  Changes will only happen once you have considered and returned the variation.
